Pointers for people writing to parliamentary candidates
1. The A1307 alternative is a route that actually connects up the various campuses and the Park & Rides more directly
2. It’s a route that can be built without further delay for £100m less delivering equivalent benefits.
3. CSET busway was only chosen because it fitted the Mayor CA scheme: Cambridge Autonomous Metro (CAM) which is now scrapped.
4. CSET loops around the villages thereby triggering mass development that can’t otherwise in planning terms be justified: it cuts through fields rendering them uneconomic for farming, so releasing land to be built up to a new boundary line.
Other points
· The green belt is highly valued by residents. It provides a green lung, recreational and health opportunities. It preserves the village setting and also Cambridge’s setting and its iconic views.
· The GCP plan to double the number of buses entering Cambridge (currently estimated at 200 in the peak hour); where will they all fit? The GCP busways are liking building the London Underground without a zone 1! Ever more congestion and movement restriction eg GCP proposals to ban turning for the Hills Road Lensfield Road junction.
· Cambridge warrants a more visionary mass transit system such as light rail which will provide the essential modal shift
· The A1307 safeguards the reopening of the Haverhill railway line creating access to land for economic housing. This opportunity is lost if the busway is built.
